Caries and nutrition: what are the most harmful foods?

Nutrition has a great influence on our oral hygiene, and some foods should be avoided as much as possible. Let's find out the 5 foods to avoid to prevent tooth decay.

Sugars. This is certainly not a surprise: substances containing sugars are very harmful to our teeth. Packaged snacks, candies and chocolate, especially if eaten between meals when we are unable to brush our teeth are especially harmful.
Sodas and sparkling drinks. These contain a large amount of sugar, causing premature enamel corrosion if drunk excessively.
Citrus fruits. You didn't expect this, did you? Although rich in vitamins, citrus fruits also contain citric acid, an abrasive acid for dental enamel. Of course we would never dream of advising you not to eat them: just drink water or rinse your mouth after eating and wait 30 minutes before brushing your teeth.
Pasta, bread and the like. Baked products produced with industrial and very refined flours tend to speed the formation of plaque on the teeth. Choose whole and less processed foods.
Alcohol. In addition to being harmful to health, alcohol also causes damage to teeth and gums. The intake of alcoholic beverages in fact slows salivation, which serves to regulate the bacteria present in our mouth. Even here, moderate amounts of alcohol followed by correct oral hygiene is the best solution.
